Divinorum Remixed - Au5

With an equal split of one remix per track, Au5 brings some sheer remix quality to "Divinorum". This was, in all honesty, a set of pretty strong remixes, even if some of the lengths were toyed with quite a lot—with all three 7-minute-long tracks being cut down to size.

  1. Drink Me - voljum Remix - Strong introductory soundscape and some very liquidy sound design, with fantastic beatwork and string/piano instrumentation and one hell of a funky late-midsection where voljum just has a bunch of fun. OK voljum, you got me, this remix is incredible, I adore the creativity and the sound design. (97/100)

  2. Dragonfly - modus. Remix - Unsure about the changes to the vocal structure (though they do add impact in places), but the micro production is very refreshing and very good—and so are the drops. Not much to say here, just really enjoyed this one. The cutdown in size is justified well. (92/100)

  3. Stargate - VIP - Intruiging heavier intro—the emotive punch of the vocals is lost, but the euphoric melodic production lives on. I do like that the rougher heavier production is dropped in favour of a more melodic perspective, which feels a lot smoother to me. (88/100)

  4. Lazerfunk - Slynk Remix - Big sweeping synths and some very aptly funky stuff, levels of funky that perhaps the original didn't even achieve. Some bassy stuff and some tonally unsure moments, but this is very nice altogether. (87/100)

  5. Beautiful Sky - Nu Strut Remix - I... don't understand. Why does this sound nothing like the original? Why is it so short? Why does it slap so hard? A very interesting bass-house-sounding take on the original, that I have mixed feelings on, but it's going in the playlist. (84/100)

  6. The Void - Frequent Remix - I mean arguably there wasn't much to work with in the original, but Frequent expands upon pretty much everything. Very big, almost mechanical, engine-like production that kicks in halfway through. Quite atmospheric and I appreciate that a lot. (84/100)

  7. Divine - Jeto Remix - Very cool DnB first half with some nifty basslines, the vocals are still as good as the original, and Jeto sticks in a big euphoric final drop. (80/100)

  8. Infinite Wings - Skybreak Remix - Skybreak comes onto "Infinite Wings" and kind of just does Skybreak things. Adds a bit of melodicness here, a bit of heaviness there, plenty of colour everywhere, and it's pretty solid. I had higher expectations but I can live with this. I prefer the melodic stuff on this remix to all the heavier sustains, but yeah I can live with this. Though the drastic shortening feels a little unjustified, as compared to the other two big shortenings on this package. (78/100)

  9. Divinorum - Worldwave Remix - Some interesting oscillating production and complementing vocal chops. Most of the remix is pretty inoffensive until the riddim-esque finale, which was pretty nasty but didn't quite feel like it fit in. Not terrible, but not incredible either. (76/100)

  10. Mesmerize - OBLVYN Remix - Some lovely OBLVYN synths, yeah, not much to say here. Pretty clean, pretty solid, pretty alright I guess. (76/100)
